Vatican City, an independent city-state nestled within Rome, functions as its own sovereign entity and serves as the epicenter of the Roman Catholic Church. The governance of this unique state is overseen by the Pope, who also holds the title of Bishop of Rome and leader of the Catholic Church. Our visit to this extraordinary location was profoundly educational and marked a significant highlight of our trip.
During our time in the city, we engaged in various activities, including a stroll around the public square, where many of the most significant Catholic events occur, such as the Wednesday audience where Pope Francis greets attendees and delivers remarks. One particularly delightful experience was sending postcards to my grandmothers from the Vatican, something I had never anticipated. It was a special moment for Roussell and me, and I eagerly await their reactions upon receiving the cards in the mail; I know it will bring them immense joy.
Although our time in each city was limited due to the extensive itinerary, the knowledge that we had technically visited three countries during our trip was exhilarating.
